Wow, I assume you did this w/o a spotter? If so, the spotter wasn't very good and if you didn't, thank God for no worse. People have died like that. Bulking is "old school." The look today is lean and mean. Remember, those guys in the magazines are juiced out and can get away with a lot more than you or I can. Whenever I train with anyone, my first objective is to get them in and out of the gym uninjured. Second is proper form. All else will follow. It just takes time.

@Blt2 . All other thing that you mentioned are covered but lifting to heavy is what I did. I was seeking my one time max on chest fiyes. I was reading in flex(another mistake for me I over do every thing) at the time triple H was working out with 110 llbs as was I I thought I need to find my one rep max so I put 130 llbs on the dumbells I did 1 and was going for 2 and about half way through it there was a loud pop and I dropped the weighs. That was almost 4 years ago. The good news is I finally got started 3 weeks ago and I am taking baby steps. I Do HIIT for cardio and I'm just going to make my body dense. To Hell with bulking up I'm as big as I need to be. I've never worked much with a trainer and you look like you know what your doing so feel free to offer any words of wisdom.

57 today is not old for weight training. This is what possibly happened, one or all of the following: You probably lifted too heavy, too often, poor nutrition, poor form. All of the foregoing can cause injury. There is a nutrition company named Parrillo Performance. I've used his eating and supplement plan in the past. Parrillo says there is no such thing as over training; it's under eating (good quality eating that is). Check it out.

My youngest son thinks he knows everything and one day we were talking about my weight lifting and he sais Dad your obsessing about it and I said yeah I am but at my age if you don't you won't do it . And damn if I didn't hurt myself 4 year ago and I just got started again about 3 weeks ago. The little smartass lol Charlie

Our dog. It would be *so* easy to turn back over, pull the covers over our heads and go back to sleep, but she gets so utterly excited. She dances around the room until we get moving, her tail going a mile a minute. It's just enough to get us up and running in the morning.

Love it "I go to the crossfit gym and do whatever the sadistic trainer tells me."

My motivations:

- I don't want to look like I don't give a damn.

- Keep my mind from going. There has been a lot of research in the news recently, pointing out that good physical conditioning helps keep your mind sharp too.

- Sex! I want to keep having great sex as long as I can, with attractive women, and that won't happen if I'm not in good physical condition.

Of course, these are all long-term motivations. On a day-to-day basis, what works for me is routine (same thing every morning), and turning off my mind. I go to the crossfit gym and do whatever the sadistic trainer tells me.

NJ: That pic was at 195 and I weigh 203 right now. I still have a six pack but it really shows around 190ish even through a wife beater shirt. I've been blessed with deep abs plus I murder them in the gym. ;)

BLT: my back was sore a couple days but I hung (no comments here) with him. I love it when guys like that come down, it really motivates me.

I have a standing invite to people who come to the area from a BB website.
