Isn't it fantastic? And I'll tell you, you think it doesn't do much but its like yoga.....it'll sneak up on you haha. After I did it the first time I was like oh snap, I haven't used those muscles in a while haha.

Shell, et al...

Preventive medicine is especially important to people who are approaching middle age. Women are generally better about this than men--they tend to understand the need for Pap smears, breast health and so on.

By the time one hits 40, both sexes ought to be paying attention to potential health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, lipid abnormalities and so on. I am not advocating indiscriminate screening, but rather thoughtful use of screening in the context of family history and known conditions. Especially if your family is prone to the common-lipid-related diseases such as DM, obesity, coronary artery disease, hypertension and stroke, attention to glucose and blood lipids are important.

It's easier to sustain and maintain health than it is to try to restore it.

Dear Poly...

My lab studies:

Cholesterol 184 Triglycerides 62 HDL(NEW) 60 LDL (Calculated) 112 TSH 0.86 PSA 0.4 (stable) Total Testosterone 415 IGF-1 177

The triglycerides are within 'spitting distance' of 50. A worthwhile goal. I'll do it.

The testosterone is 'normal', but 33%'ile for my age, and would be the median (50'ile) value for an 85 year old. Plan is to watch, wait and recheck. If it slides further this year, well, we'll have to see. With a PSA of 0.4, I'm not excited about T supplementation.

Now that y'all mention that I need to have blood work done...I haven't in years (I'm ashamed to say that I have worked in the healthcare field since 97 and havent had my blood tested in years) but the last time my triglycerides were elevated.

I know I have a new HTOTD every day lately lmao but I'm really motivated and happy with this new running/working out lifestyle I've got going on here lol. We ran tonight (it was like 88 degrees and felt like heaven) and I have to tell you, I'm beginning to really think my body is getting into this running gig. Not only was I able to run the furthest I have yet without slowing to a walk but my recovery time was really quick and I ended up having the ability to sprint at the end. I'm really proud most especially of my legs.

HTOD: I'm beginning to feel the work out high I think. When I started I felt completely spent after a work out. Now I'm not feeling chipper but I am going to go for a nice brisk walk once it cools down a bit. I think I'm getting the hang of this work out stuff! I am trying to do something different daily to keep muscle confusion and I'm definately enjoying being able to eat more. Tomorrow I'm buying the book about clean eating, it looks very interesting.

That is fantastic! We are the same way around here. The other day our 3 year old asked the 6 year old for some kool aid. Our 6 year old told him "we don't drink kool aid, we're Crystal Light people"....lol Jay and I have been chuckling about that ever since.
