CuriosityKilt, you are correct the problem is that there are way too many "experts" and in order to make a living they have to stay on the top or be controversial. The latest one is typical "cardio makes you fat" but the problem is that cardio is just people moving around..well Jim needs to sell the latest book. Look on YouTube literally thousands of muscular people who will teach you from how to build a muscle to how to "eat" right..and when you try to check credentials...none, publications..none..research..none.

Here is the thing about fitness advice: Look long enough and you will get contradictory advice on any topic. This is life and as Carl Sagan put it "use your BS meter". Do you really think cardio makes you fat? Really? It isn't the weight loss mecca it is made out to be in some circles but it doesn't make you fat.

A bad diet makes you fat.

"cardio" doesn't make people fat.

Eating more calories than used will cause the human body to store fat. Any exercise will burn calories during the activity. Some exercises will support muscle building and thus increase metabolic rate (calories used while at rest). Some exercises increase post-activity metabolism (usually high intensity interval training). Some eating plans boost thermic effect (caloric cost of digestion) and fasting can decrease metabolism.

Individual metabolism is influenced by genetics, gender, age, muscle mass, hormones, daily lifestyle.

Cardio training has a role in healthy lifestyle. Would not recommend "forgetting" it. But you are correct that it's not the end-all/be-all for overall health and weight management.

You're right of course however if you ask Mr. Jim Karas (life expert and fitness adviser) you should really forget cardio...it makes you fat.
