Plateaus are a fact of life. There is such a thing as muscle and fitness memory, and trainers will tell you that mixing up the workouts and sequences is key.

For me--and for many colleagues--high intensity interval training AND adding something new has been important in breaking through a plateau. My current strategy is working with the kettlebells.

It's worth noting that adequate motivation and preparation are equally important. That preparation needs to include adequate rest, nutrition and hydration. If you are having difficulty rising from a plateau, make sure that you are not overtired, malnourished or dehydrated. Overtraining is another problem to be considered. More and heavier is not necessarily better.

Perfect.. I know what you mean. I also run to change up my routine. I am at a plateau. I hate plateaus.

I hate to run too....but I do. It's the most efficient way for me to exercise in the limited time I have. I do 3 miles 3-4 days a week.
