Well I can say that my weight righted itself and I "lost" 6 lbs. in two days, so I'm on track for a slight weight loss as it should be. It just freaks me out when the scale goes up for no reason.

I've heard that it is impossible to gain 5 lbs worth of water weight overnight but that must be what happens.

My daughter lost a ton on weight watchers. My gf isn't having any luck on it but maintaining her weight. Some our friends and family have fitbits. I like the fun of challenging each other with it. I played around with MyFitnessPal and tracked calories for awhile. What's nice about tracking calories is that you can find out just how much that venti Starbucks Caramel Frappachino is gonna cost ya..900 calories or something like that! Not worth it! But after a month or two I just have to stop focusing on food and focus on excercise in order for me to lose weight. I skip meals especially breakfast and some days don't eat at all. Next thing I know I'm losing weight not a lot, but enough so I dont have to be too picky about what I can eat. I have plenty of energy too. Diets are hard at first until you find out what works for you. IMO listening to experts and trying different things is must until you dial in your number. Hope this helps.

I don't use the Fitbit anymore. It overestimated my calorie expenditure. I'll gain a pound a day if I eat the number of calories it tells me to.

DD, FWIW, my fitbit under estimated my calories expended on both the cybex (slightly) and the treadmill (huge gap).

also under-counted my steps taken until i switched to the "new" interface for the dashboard.

so if you haven't updated the fitbit app and the new dashboard, do that first then for exercise i would recommend looking up calorie counts rather than relying on the fitbit.

I'll try it!

Yes, that sounds like me. Without an occasional treat, why live?

IMO weight loss is individual--what one trainer tells you may work for him/her, but not necessarily be "right" for you.

i am sugar free in all drinks, except the rare "drinks" out on nights out.

but i can't give up sweets or the occasional treat entirely. i wind up sabotaging myself.

so, i plan around the treats and record everything so i am not fooling myself in to thinking i will succeed when i haven't counted everything. (and brewed tea or coffee, even without sweeteners or milk, has calories; splenda has calories, etc.--so i do record *everything*).

i use the paid ($39/yr) version and i like it much better. huge databases for foods including most restaurants (even some local). i never upgraded on MFP so can't compare but when i use it faithfully lose it! really does help me achieve my goals.

PS. The last time I went to a trainer, he suggested that I eat about 500 more calories per day with fewer sugars. I don't drink soft drinks or much candy but I guess I get it in salad dressings, BBQ sauce, fruit, an occasional after dinner mint, and my once per week cocktails. Truthfully, I feel deprived without any of those things.

I'm using MyFitnessPal. Fitbit consistently calculated more calories than I was busing but MFP was pretty good I thought. Do you think Loseit! Is a better ap?

DD, weight loss and working out can be a really frustrating journey. i am sure you know that one weigh in doesn't define whether you are doing the right thing or not.

i like the "lose it!" app, which calculates my daily calories needed and whether my food & beverage (every thing, really) intake is exceeding or "less than" my calories burned. some things i assumed were zeros in terms of calories surprised me--since it's on my phone, it is next to zero effort to log and record everything.

one of my coworkers reminds me it took longer than a few days to put it on, it's going to take more than a few days to take it off.

if after a few weeks, you aren't seeing results, maybe set up an appointment with a trainer (a good one) to evaluate your fitness routine to tweak it.
