It is truly a blessing to know. Ever since I was a little girl, I had crazy things happening to me health wise. Now I know and can deal with it and get treated as needed.
We all have things to deal with. We can't go around feeing invulnerable. It's kind of ironic to find out that I may be better able to deal with HIV when something rather innocuous can throw me for a loop. |

Oh dear, I'm sorry you have this gene anomaly ....and/or I'm sorry you ' know' you have this gene anomaly? I don't know how I would feel about knowing these things. Is it good or bad to know? Many of us may have it and probably are never going to find out if we do. Will this change your play style, whatever it may be?

I was diagnosed with a series of strokes. I had been having them for several years, but each time, I recovered so well that they thought I was having panic attacks or migraines. When they looked at my brain, they could see clots and atrophied arteries. They started looking for a cause. My blood pressure and cholesterol was perfect. My carotid artery was over 99% clear - unheard of! They run more tests until they discovered this gene anomaly which affects the entire immune system.

This conversation triggered me to look up HLA-B27, a gene anomaly that I have that makes me more susceptible to certain things. Ironically, the same gene makes me more likely to be an "HIV controller." That means that perhaps I can get HIV and stay healthy and symptom free for many years without medication. That would allow me to spread it all around while I enjoy great health. Oh goody!

Since i read that post about certain people being resistant to STD's, I've been trying to make an appt to make sure my genes are properly mutated so that I don't have to be concerned over this issue anymore. If I ever find out this information I will be sure to pass it along to everyone here and we will all know ahead of time if we can bareback or not. :-/
Seriously, I'm pretty sure we are all aware that people are resistant to many things. I'm not understanding how this has anything to do with people feeling safer. |

I suspect that our nugget dropping fellow, is not part of the European contingent whose gone through gene mutation. Neither are the majority of the globe's population. Bareback even with friends is a ridiculously thoughtless move. At the end of the day, we ALL sleep with each other by proxy.
