It is clearly unethical to, in a controlled environment, measure heterosexual HIV transmission during sex protected vs. unprotected; however, from my reading, population studies indicate condom use reduces transmission by 80%. If you can wear a condom, the numbers are heavily in your favor without question. Before my affliction, in group settings where I was taking on numerous unknown partners or with ugly women, I always wore condoms. Why, with ugly women? Not fear of disease but a desire not to be that intimate. And, yes, that was my criteria in college throughout the 80s and early 90s when HIV was daily in the news. It was a homosexual disease.
